SILVER BEAVER.png

Yucca Council Executive Board and Volunteers,

It is with great pleasure that I share with you that Jim Libbin has been selected by the National Court of Honor as a recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award! Jim’s selection for this prestigious award is in direct recognition of his years of distinguished service to the National Council, the Territory, and Yucca Council.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Silver Buffalo Award:

The Silver Buffalo Award, created in 1925, is bestowed upon those who give truly noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award, Scouting's highest commendation, recognizes the invaluable contributions that outstanding American men and women render to youth. The service must be national or international in character and may or may not be directly connected with the Boy Scouts of America.

To give you a bit more context on the magnitude of this award within the Boy Scouts of America, Jack Vowell is the only other known recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award from Yucca Council.  He earned the award in 1963.  Several United States Presidents have also earned this award.

Jim will be presented the Silver Buffalo at the National Annual Meeting to be held in Orlando in May.

Please join me in congratulating Jim on this well-deserved honor.

Yours In Scouting,

Jeff Duer  |  Scout Executive

Important changes to Registration!

There are fee changes that will be taking place on April 1st, 2024.

New Leadership Applications

Effective Monday, March 4th, a new adult application process will be in effect. This process will require that the results of the Criminal Background Check (CBC) be received before the new adult volunteer can take on any leadership responsibilities.

Upon submission of an adult application, the individual will enter a "pending" status. An email notification will be sent to the adult leader, advising them that their registration is in progress and emphasizing that they must refrain from assuming any leadership role until the CBC process is completed. Additionally, the unit's key leadership (Key 3) will receive a corresponding email notification.

Once the CBC results are deemed acceptable, both the applicant and the unit's key leadership will receive an email indicating that the applicant can now actively participate as a leader within the organization.

Announcement

New Annual Membership Fee Process Announced – BSA Will No Longer Prorate Fees for New Members beginning August 1, 2023

Beginning August 1, 2023, all new youth and adult members who join Scouting will be enrolled in a 12- month membership cycle and BSA will cease prorating fees. Both youth and adults will pay the full annual membership fee and will renew their membership on the anniversary date of joining Scouting (those who registered prior to August 2023 will renew on their usual expiration, in most cases December).

All proration of membership fees will be eliminated. Each registered member of the BSA will receive an email notice with a registration renewal link beginning 60 days before the anniversary month they joined Scouting. Unit leaders will receive a copy of the email and should stay engaged in the membership renewal process just like rechartering.
